It has the Pike's (longest spear) moveset (charging running R1s anyone?) with 80 more points of base damage with the scaling emphasizing DEX. If you just want to slap something silly with a big stick, forget about it, as you won't need very much DEX unless you're using some of the Ultra Greatswords or DLC weapons, but if you're using a DEX build Pate's Spear can probably last you the whole game.
